What Printers and Labels Work With does not have a restriction on the type of printer and labels that you can use. You can use a basic printer and standard printing paper to print labels.

However, to get the best results and save money, we recommend using one of the printers listed below.

We started off using a DYMO Label Printer and then switched to a Zebra Thermal Printer. Both printers do not use ink so this alone can save you hundreds of dollars every year. We bought both of the printers on Amazon.

We have included a link to both printers and corresponding labels so that you can compare them:

  1. I am a long time user of and find it very convenient. I subscribe to the basic service which is only $4.49 per month. It offers all the same feature of the other levels of service. This is suitable for normal household usage with infrequent package mailing. I noticed that you did not include this service in your review.

    1. Pamela:

The plan that you mentioned is a custom plan that offers after you attempt to cancel the service or after you call them directly and request the plan. They do not have this plan advertised on their website. From what we understand, the plan has several limitations that the other plans do not (things like SCAN forms, the amount of postage that you can print in any given month, etc.).

Thank you for your input, hopefully customers that are looking for a cheaper plan for infrequent mailing can use your input.

  2. You say you should use if:
You use US Post office do not want to wait in long lines at Post office
and: You spend more than $50 a month in shipping:
    NOT SO:
First of all the US Post office also arranges for pick up of Priority packages and allows drop off so there is no need to wait in lines when you purchase directly through them so that is NOT an advantage

And as to the statement that is a good idea if you spend over $50 a month rule:

We ship everything using US Priority small flat rate or padded flat rate. . The postage costs $8 per package through US Post office, and 7.55 through (currently) so we would save .45 cents per package with We go over the $50 cost after shipping 7 packages. Seven packages x .45 savings is 3.15 Not even close to the $16 monthly fee!! How do you arrive at the $50 figure?? Sounds like you just borrowed that directly from their website without doing the math.

We would have to pay over $250 per month in shipping fees before we would be at the break even point with

    1. Bill:

That’s correct. USPS does allow you to schedule pickups for Priority packages only. However, not everyone ships Priority Mail. There is First Class Mail, Media Mail, Parcel Post, and Express Mail. When you drop off packages, you still have to wait in line if you want to receive a receipt showing that USPS accepted your package. By your logic, you would have the right to skip right ahead, which I highly doubt any postal office allows.

Next, the USPS website is great for a few packages. Their method of entering shipping information is time consuming, and if you are trying to ship 30 orders, it is going to take a while to enter each shipping address. With a software like Stamps, you simply copy and paste the shipping information in the “Ship to” field. With a shipping software, an individual would be able to print all 30 labels before you print 5 through the USPS website. But again, you may not value your time in the same way that other business owners do.

As for the $50 figure, it does not refer to “breaking even.” There is more to that figure than just the currency aspect. For instance, also offers huge discounts on shipping insurance, customizable labels, and multiple reference codes (which is a code that ties multiple packages together and the postal clerk can scan all of the packages at once). In addition, the history page shows all packages that have been delivered without having to use the tracking tool on the USPS website.

It is definitely not worth it for someone shipping a few packages per month.

  3. The bottom line is this, if you ship hundreds of orders per month, then is worth the money and saves quite a bit of time, effort and aggravation. The issue is that leads all sellers and small business owners to believe that they are going to come out ‘way ahead’ by using their services….not illegal, but very misleading. The interface on their website is very functional, but extremely difficult to navigate and use correctly for the novice user or someone who has not been thoroughly trained (web interface is not at all intuitive). To top it off, they make it extremely cumbersome to cancel the service…..again, not illegal, but still very frustrating and aggravating. I paid for multiple months and never used the service, then when my office manager tried to cancel the service, she just couldn’t figure out how to cancel it due to the complexity built into the online cancellation process. When I asked for even the current months fees back, it was immediately denied and I was told no service fees would be waived (unwilling to compromise). I do not recommend them for anyone that doesn’t ship an excessive amount of mail or packages every month.

I have had a stamps account for the last 5 years. The monthly 18.00 Is worth it because you can ship with global international.
I have called them on many occasions for various reasons and every time they are courteous and helpful. I am pleased with this company, I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews!!!!

  5. interface is convoluted and not intuitive at all. Worst, they put you on a plan and don’t tell you that it is a trial, and they just charges you without telling you the trial is about to be over. A rip tech rip off.

    1. Quy: recently updated their interface. I think the interface is clean but sometimes on the slower end if you are using the web version. That is why I always recommend using their desktop software. As for the free trial, you will only be charged if you continue past the trial period. Just about every service that has a free trial transitions automatically into a paying plan.

  6. DO NOT APPLY FOR STAMPS.COM free trial!!! This is definitely a scam. In signing up for the free trial, you have to give your credit card. I tried this free trial hoping it would save me time in line at the post office. I realized that for the price they charged it was not worth it to me. I cancelled my subscription before the free trial ended. I have confirmation of this, and a notice from them that it was cancelled. 3 MONTHS later….they still continue to charge me the $17.99 a month!!! I cannot resolve this as of yet. I am SO frustrated that they can do this. When I log back in o, they have blocked me getting into my account that I set up. So obviously since this is blocked now, I cannot remove my credit card info.
This is SUCH a dishonest company and a SCAM. DO NOT USE THIS!!

    1. Boni:

      That sounds terrible.

I usually hear stories like this when customers forget to cancel their free trial period before it expires. I would definitely give them a call. If that does not help, I suggest you contact your credit card company, as well as the Better Business Bureau (they are usually good at recovering your money back).

I would love to hear how you were able to resolve this.

  7. saves you no money just time driving to the Post Office. We switched as in my church and youpay a $9.99 monthly fee, pay to purchase the paper to print stamps and you still pay the same postage rate for the stamps. So now we are paying a &9.99 monthly fee and for paper on top of the cost of stamps. Scam in my book.

    1. Jason,

I have to disagree with you. Here is an example of the savings:

Post Office: A Priority Mail package that weighs 5 lbs that is being shipped from New York to Los Angeles, CA will cost you $26.70. The same package will cost you $21.01 through That is a $5.69 difference.

That is for only a single package. If you ship 20 packages per month, that is nearly $100 in savings even when you deduct the monthly fee for
